Obesity To Blame For Game

Reader Joe T. sent me a link to this story (scroll halfway down) about female obesity correlating with lower pay in the workplace. The study’s conclusion — that fat women suffer a wage penalty because of discrimination — is shaky (for instance, fat women may be less productive than their thinner counterparts due to health issues), but there’s no doubt that employers — male and female, fat and thin – don’t like looking at fat chicks in the office and that this may affect their employment prospects. There is a chart accompanying the report which shows that the percentage of overweight and obese white American women has increased from 12.6% in 1981 to 50.4%(!) in 2000.

That is just so fucking depressing on so many levels. The gravity of this tragic situation had me wondering if the rise in female obesity has indirectly contributed to the concurrent rise in the teaching of Game and the player subculture. I now think it has. The best way to illustrate my point is through visual aids.

This is what happens when you put five thin women of bangable age and reasonable attractiveness and five normal men together in a bar:

thingirls1.jpg

All the penises have found a home. Every woman is at a minimum sperm-worthy so the competition between the men is reduced to a manageable amount unless one of the girls happens to be an 8.5 or better, in which case there is a flurry of chest-pounding as the men jockey for her attention, followed quickly by peace in the land once the betas realize that sex with 6s and 7s isn’t too bad, either.

Now we’ll see what happens when you put three fat chicks, one mediocre-looking thin girl, one hot red-headed girl, and five normal men together in a bar:

fatgirls.jpg

As you can see, the three fat chicks are completely ignored, even though this guarantees that three penises will not find a home tonight, unless the two remaining girls are into sharing. Instead, all five men will descend upon the two skinny chicks and a battle royale will ensue for access to their skinny vaginas. Eventually, the hot red-headed chick will meet her attention quota and go home penis-less but oddly very satisfied. The mediocre-looking chick, who would be a 6 in any other country where the female obesity rate wasn’t over 50%, is suddenly faced with the sexual interest of five men. Being the only sperm-worthy available vagina left in the bar, she vogues and disdains like a 10, enjoying every second of her newfound fame, and throwing the forces of the cosmos into a great imbalance. Her ego jacked up, she too will go home penis-less and emotionally very satisfied, all the while thanking her American sisters for their addiction to cookie dough straight from the tube.

A visual representation of the aftermath of this all-too-real nightmare scenario:

bigegogirl.jpg

Those are the penises trampled underfoot the stiletto heels of the last remaining thin girl in the universe. Her head has grown large from the ego-stroking of all the men who had no other options but to attempt sex with her. Like small mammals scattered out of the brush before a stampeding herd of wildebeests, scampering toward the safety of one golden burrow on the horizon, these men face certain doom.

Which brings me to my theory: Game has been refined, taught and embraced by men in direct proportion to the shrinking pool of attractive thin girls. As the reduced supply of skinny chicks have seen their sexual market value skyrocket, they have adjusted by pricing their pussy out of reach for the average guy. In return, men have sought solutions to this new challenge in the rapidly advancing science of seduction. Where simple courtship worked in the past, it is no longer effective against the deep bunker defenses of the in-demand slender woman.

There has always been an evolutionary arms race between men and women in the quest for sex but now, for the first time in human history, the sheer numbers of fat chicks – in concert with the increase of financially independent women – is accelerating this arms race so fast that many people can’t cope and drop out. The tools of seduction for men become better by the day and the women counter with more impenetrable defenses. The tension is palpable. The whining and bitching is cacophonic. Distrust and dating blogs are at record highs.

If just 20% of fat chicks lost weight relations between the sexes would start to noticeably improve. And there would be more happiness in the world, because a skinny girl with hunger pangs is happier than a fat girl with a sheepdog and peanut butter.

Many will remember John F. Nash in the movie “A Beautiful Mind” advancing super obvious theory on picking up women in a bar. He advised each of his buddies to avoid hitting on the hot one. He was considered a genius.

By including diagrams with men’s doo dads completely out of proportion to their bodies, crushed penises, and frowny faces, I believe you’ve bested even him.

    I salute you.

    yeah seriously.
why does he always have to draw my body so damn big?

As I have always stated, the US must be the worst dating market for men in the world.
    1. More than half of the girls in the US are seriously overweight, although that compensates somewhat with the existing overweight men.
    2. Low birthrates mean that the generation of young women is smaller than the generation of men 4 to 10 years older than them. In countires where birthrates are high it’s very easy to pick up young girls because they are plenty of them. For example, in Argentina there are like 12 twentyy year old females for every 8 thirty yearv old males, but in the US it’s probably the other way around.
    3. It has always surprised how many normal American men I have seen attached to beachwhales or even women somewhat older than them.
    4. Fat girls don’t really bother me, I just ignore them, but it’s probably very different to have 10% of fat chicks instead of 50%.

There is one more thing that skews the dateable man-woman ratio, which I guess is constant across time and cultures: age.

The holy grail, which is single women 18-28 years old, are hit on by men who are 18-45 years old. So the 18-28 y.o. men compete not only among one another for the few thin girls out there, but also with guys who are 29-45 years old.

Both men and women who marry are off the market (for the most part), but after a divorce, 30-45 year-old men re-enter the dating market. Divorced women over 30 rarely do.

Just anectodatlly, my wife is 11 years younger than me, so I, then a 34-year-old, snatched her from some hypothetical 23-year old kid when we started dating. My best friend’ wife is 9 years younger than him. My sister married a guy 10 years older than herself.

    TRUE STORY!

  7. on March 7, 2008 at 1:48 pm alias clio

Men are very nearly as likely as women to be obese, according to this story in the Herald Tribune from Nov. 2007:

Ogden added that the trend for women was “great news.” Obesity rates have held at about 35 percent since 1999, convincing her that the tide had changed. “I’m optimistic that it really is leveling off,” she said.

Men’s rates increased until 2003, when they hit 33 percent and stayed there through the 2005-6 survey. Ogden said she would like to see a few more years of data before declaring that men’s rates had stopped increasing.

And believe me, this is one area where men’s appearance does count. Slender women have no wish to involve themselves with fat men; they will tolerate some thickening at the waist, but no more.

  8. on March 7, 2008 at 1:53 pm PA

Clio, I wonder what the Herald Tribune means by “obese men.” I see lots of men with some thickening of the waist, but not that many grossly obese men.

Having some extra weight is not a liability to men, particularly if it’s offset by other attributes. A corresponding amount of extra weight in women is usually a deal-breaker.

  9. on March 7, 2008 at 2:27 pm anon

“Slender women have no wish to involve themselves with fat men; they will tolerate some thickening at the waist, but no more.”

Women have no problems with Jack Nicholson or any other old, fat cat.

  10. on March 7, 2008 at 2:33 pm alias clio

Obese is a more or less clinical term, PA, usually defined as being 20% or more above your ideal weight, or (by your NIH) as having a BMI of 30 or more.

The definition will always be a bit imprecise, because of the effects of musculature and heavy bones, but probably works well enough for most people.

  11. on March 7, 2008 at 2:37 pm anon

Your analysis is correct for middle America, but in most major U.S. cities, most women are thin and hot.

The factor in major U.S. cities is that many women are financially independent (high paying careers or family money).

Traditionally, women got into relationships with men for emotional, financial, and physical security. (Sex has never really been a motivating factor to get into a relationship because they can get it anytime.) With money, they can now buy security: they can pay a therapist for their emotional needs and pay to live in an expensive, safe area.

  12. on March 7, 2008 at 2:38 pm che che

    haha, funny.

the thing about fat girls and pay reminded me: women’s involvement in the workforce has increase a lot since the 60s (although no where near as much as living in NYC would make you think, most women are employed an average of less than 1/3 time). this increase in the workfore has resulted in a much lesser increase in economic growth. partly this is from women’s performance in the workplace, but also it results from men being less productive when working with women (fucking messaging the pretty girls all goddamn day isn’t helping anyone).

the line between male and female roles is blurring and in some ways we are worse off for it. if we ditched the bullshit anti discrimination laws i think things would work out better.

  13. on March 7, 2008 at 2:43 pm TracyLord

it’s funny how guys say physical appearance, like having some extra weight, is not liability to men and yet 98% of the players i know have and go to great lengths to maintain a lean appearance. and the ladies i know who cheat on their partners invariably do so with a physically more attractive man.

i’m certain roissy will concede to the fact that the growing waistlines of the male species gives him an advantage in the competitive playing field.

  14. on March 7, 2008 at 2:56 pm PA

That depends whether you’re talking about a beer gut on a slovenly-looking man, or just some extra weight that many men have, which they de-emphasize with clothes, and for which they can compensate with other attributes.

  15. on March 7, 2008 at 3:00 pm alias clio

Jack Nicolson? Oh for heaven’s sake! He’s rich and famous and has kept up his reputation for “coolness”. He’s the exception that proves the rule. Anyway, I wonder how well he’s doing now? Roissy once showed a picture of him with a boatload (literally) of women, but I think they were mostly related to him.

I don’t think I could stand him as a prospective mate, in the unlikely event that I were to meet him and he showed any interest. Peter O’Toole, now, is another matter, but he’s kept his boyish figure. And remember, regarding age: when Warren Beatty, who stayed slender, finally got around to getting married, he chose a woman of 34, not a 22-year-old, as I’ve mentioned here before.

  16. on March 7, 2008 at 3:30 pm Peter

Clio, I wonder what the Herald Tribune means by “obese men.” I see lots of men with some thickening of the waist, but not that many grossly obese men.

My experience is quite different. Because I ride on tiny-seated commuter trains each day I have no choice but to be aware of men’s sizes. All too often an elephantine SCA plops his 300+ pounds into the seat next to me and squashes me into goo. Believe me, there are a LOT of very large men out there.

  17. on March 7, 2008 at 3:37 pm Peter

For example, in Argentina there are like 12 twentyy year old females for every 8 thirty yearv old males, but in the US it’s probably the other way around.

But Gannon, wouldn’t a 20-year-old girl be at least eight years too old for your tastes?

  18. on March 7, 2008 at 4:01 pm Great Danes

I can offer anecdotal evidence that supports Roissy’s theory based on my recent trip to Denmark, which is essentially a fatless country. Food is super-expensive and not very good; all the women are skinny and blonde, very active - everyone rides bikes, rather than driving cars (which are too expensive for most people). In the bars, there were basically two kinds of girls- thin, blonde, athletic pretty girls and thin, blonde, athletic not-as-pretty girls. However, there were also no 9s and 10s like the models, actresses, strippers and other hotties you typically see in Manhattan. Certainly not a lot of makeup, fancy clothing and other feminine beauty-enhancers. Basically it was a country of 5-9s: no 4 and below whatsoever, and very very few 10s.

The men are giants, some good-looking, but for the most part immature and goofy, and very beta in their interactions with females. I met some very gorgeous women with complete tool boyfriends, guys who had no alpha qualities at all. I met very few alpha-male personalities there, despite their truly Viking physical stature.

The upshot was that Danish beta-boys were scoring hotter chicks they would be pulling in the States- based on their lame blue collar jobs, obsessive interest in Star Wars and awful clothing. To be fair, they are all big and Danish, which would score them points with certain American girls. But the point is that there are simply no fat girls in Denmark. At least I didn’t see any. So no guy- even a douche supreme- will ever have to sleep with a 4 or below. He can get 5s and 6s routinely. A garden variety beta is banging 7s and 8s. I believe American guys can score 8s and 9s easily in Denmark on the regular due to the foreign factor if they have any game at all.

  19. on March 7, 2008 at 4:07 pm instantExcitement

Weight for men obviously matters to some degree. I’m 6′0 150, if i weighed 250 it would make a difference, if i weighed 165 of mostly more fat, i doubt it would as I’m slender as is.

I also totally agree with this post, I was out last weekend, and my club/drunken evaluation of a girl I met was greatly enhanced because she was fit, rather than having a great face, and needless to say the amount of attention she got was that of a 9 instead of the 6.5 that she was. This correlation is especially true in the summer, as right now the layers of clothes disguises some of the fat, but by summer, when the thin/fit women start wearing more revealing clothing, their rate of attention skyrockets over their more average friends.

Anyway, thanks to this post I’m going to say something I never thought I’d say in the past….thank God I live in an image-obsessed city. Reading this made me realize how much worse the opposite problem of living in a fat chick haven would be.

Obesity definitely hurts a guy in the short-term market (bars, nightclubs, etc.), but not that much as a prospective dad. The majority of the pickup artist gurus I’ve seen pictures of are ectomorphs, with mesomorphs rounding out the rest, and no endomorphs.

Just to one-up the Whiterpeople out there, I threaten to move back to Spain (not to Canada). The obesity rate’s increasing everywhere, though, so it may only be a matter of time before half of Catalan ladies have four spare tires too.

  23. on March 7, 2008 at 4:25 pm candy cane

I hate to say it, but I think roissy is right on with this one. Not that I would ever brag (haha) but when I go out dancing (even though I’m older than the 20 somethings roissy and his cohorts are after) I often feel like the Queen of Sheba. A woman who keeps herself in shape, dresses feminine (dresses, etc.) is groomed, outgoing, healthy, energetic, loves to dance and basically doesn’t give a shit about whether they get banged or not can get a lot of attention without even trying.

I dated exactly two guys total I met through match.com and both were significantly heavier than their pictures and weight claims. What a waste of time. These guys know that hot women are not going to give them a second look with all that extra poundage. Ugly is one thing, fat is quite another. It’s similar to someone not stating they are a smoker.

What’s needed perhaps to make all the penis’ happy is to have fat clubs and skinny clubs similar to the gay clubs–where people can celebrate their fatness. It’s pretty rare to see a fat person with a skinny person, though it does happen obviously.

  24. on March 7, 2008 at 4:29 pm Biff

Gotta respectfully disagree with ya on this topic, pulling fatties can hone parts of a man’s game like runners training with long slow distance runs. They keep you in shape for the 9’s and 10’s and they usually have hot friends (didn’t you do a post on hot girls/fugly friends?)

Anyway size 10 – 14 women fuck like wildcats (yes, because they HAVE TO) and are a great diversion. I sprinkle my creel with them once in a while, just to keep it real.

  25. on March 7, 2008 at 4:47 pm John Smith

On the topic of male obesity, you fail to note the PSYCHOLOGICAL effects of being in shape. A male in shape usually feels more confident about himself and has larger amounts of testosterone.

A fat guy can still pull. It happens all the time. You see hot chicks with fat guys. But you don’t see fat girls with (rich/very good looking/ultra macho) men.

Roissy, you forgot something else that throws an interesting twist. The entrance of black men onto the dating scene I think soaks up some of the fat and decent white girls. To counter that, the asian chicks go for white guys.

Hopefully in the coming years tools of weight loss will increase.

  26. on March 7, 2008 at 4:49 pm ATL

At least in the USA it still appears that game and getting laid is still important, in Japan the men have just given up….

  27. on March 7, 2008 at 5:01 pm Hope

In countries where just about everyone is skinny, a girl who even has a little bit of fat on her will be called out as chubby. My relatives always called me plump when I was living with them, because I was a bit fatter than most Asian girls around me.

They called me fat when they saw my wedding pictures, even though my BMI at that time was around 21. It’s around 19 now, but I’m pretty sure they’d still say I’m fat because I have more meat on me than other Asian women (my mom for example is skin on bones).

There is no escape from brutal physical assessments for a female.

  28. on March 7, 2008 at 5:07 pm rinaface

when most women were skinny did the same bar culture exist?

  29. on March 7, 2008 at 5:14 pm Gannon

But Gannon, wouldn’t a 20-year-old girl be at least eight years too old for your tastes?

No. I don’t date women under 14. First, it’s ilegal if you do anything else than dating, and second, they are still too childlike. By the way Peter, I feel strongly attracted to 20 year olds, but I also like them somewhat younger. A woman’s best age is probably around 14-24 years of age, so yes, I consider 23 year old women very attractive. But I am willing to say the truth, and the truth is that women age 16 are also very attractive, and also have a lot of nice pubic hair specially for you Peter, proof that they are women aand not children anymore.

  30. on March 7, 2008 at 5:31 pm candy cane

    29 Gannon

A bit off topic, but I’ve noticed you get a lot of flack for being attracted to very young girls. The fact is age 14 is the natural age when boys and girls are sexually mature and in more “primitive” (nature-oriented) societies become sexually active. My ex’s native American grandmother (Cherokee) was married at age 14.

  31. on March 7, 2008 at 5:44 pm John Smith

My grandma, who now has a masters degree, had her first son (my uncle) at the age of 16. The age girls hit puberty is usually the time of their first sexual experience, if you look at any society that didn’t have an age of consent.

After all, Muhammad married his wife at the age of 6, and is worshiped by billions. Can’t go wrong there!

  32. on March 7, 2008 at 5:46 pm finefantastic

    John Smith:
“The entrance of black men onto the dating scene I think soaks up some of the fat and decent white girls. To counter that, the asian chicks go for white guys.”

Where does that leave black women and asian guys, exactly?

  33. on March 7, 2008 at 5:57 pm DF

The Cherokee embrace of the primitive nature-oriented perogative is a godsend cause those mother fuckers are so biologically successful that the white man is in danger of going extinct.

    Wait.

News flash: there are a handful of native americans left in the fucking country and the ones that remain are alcoholics…so much for that theory.

  34. on March 7, 2008 at 6:05 pm John Smith

Where does that leave black women and asian guys, exactly?

The biggest opposition to interracial dating comes from asian guys and black girls. And they are way too incompatible to date each other in significant numbers, so they’re screwed.

there are a handful of native americans left in the fucking country and the ones that remain are alcoholics…so much for that theory.

We’re not saying nature is good. I’m a singularitarian, I hate nature. But, we can’t deny nature either. And alcohol is something that ISN’T natural to them, so they weren’t adapted to it.

  35. on March 7, 2008 at 6:10 pm DF

Yeah T’s comment, again on the money. I too am glad I don’t live in a city full of fattys. That would just drive me insane. Of course, NY’s got a shit load of 6 and 7s that think they are 9s and 10s but once you break through their rapid fire shit testing, its easy to put em back in their place.

  36. on March 7, 2008 at 6:14 pm dchero

Wow, well done. Hall of fame no asterisk. I just made the picture with the 3 fat girls my desktop background.

  37. on March 7, 2008 at 6:19 pm Shannon

“there are a handful of native americans left in the fucking country and the ones that remain are alcoholics…so much for that theory.”

…except that the alcohol issues came from the fact that it was one more thing they weren’t biologically ready for. Like smallpox. Plus, we did eventually adapt. We have casinos now, and we’re making money off fat white people hand over fist.

And, Gannon, we don’t marry off 14-year-olds anymore, so please don’t go cruising in Qualla.

(I’m guessing y’all didn’t know I’m part Cherokee, and not in that bullshit 1/64-no-cultural-connection way. I’m talking spent-Christmas-on-a-reservation part Cherokee.)

  38. on March 7, 2008 at 6:23 pm Cynically Yours

Keeping fit even in your dotage, if you’re a man, seems pretty obvious. The kindly ones don’t mind age the way we do, but still won’t flock around the flab.

  39. on March 7, 2008 at 6:24 pm Gannon

“The fact is age 14 is the natural age when boys and girls are sexually mature and in more “primitive” (nature-oriented) societies become sexually active.”

Thanks for your support. By the way, when I was 16 I lived in the US and I would say that mot American teens also start their sex life at around 14-16, although only with teens their own age. It’s not like in Latinamerica where 15 year old gilrs with guys in their early twenties are fairly common.

“And alcohol is something that ISN’T natural to them, so they weren’t adapted to it.·

That’s true. Alcohol, suggar and fatty food is something whites are much better adapted for than other races. Asians and Indians have a much higher tendency to get alcoholic and diabetic if they start drinking too much alcohol or eating too much suggar.

  40. on March 7, 2008 at 6:34 pm Peter

News flash: there are a handful of native americans left in the fucking country and the ones that remain are alcoholics…so much for that theory.

They’re better off that some Aborigines in Australia.

Money quote: Aboriginal children in Outback Australia are so neglected by their alcoholic parents that some have suckled from dogs’ teats in a desperate search for food, it has been reported.

    1. “Where simple courtship worked in the past, it is no longer effective against the deep bunker defenses of the in-demand slender woman.” Wow. What a freaking great line. Dating games are one thing, but when you start talking about “defenses” and “bunkers,” well, shit, then it’s war.

    2. In response to Hope’s comment, “It’s pretty rare to see a fat person with a skinny person, though it does happen obviously.” I think we see more skinny women with beefier guys than the other way around. I wonder why that is. Do women care less if their man has a few extra pounds??

  42. on March 7, 2008 at 6:36 pm Peter

But I am willing to say the truth, and the truth is that women age 16 are also very attractive, and also have a lot of nice pubic hair specially for you Peter, proof that they are women aand not children anymore.

Just because a girl may be developing the Glorious Natural Pelt at age 16 doesn’t mean she’s psychologically ready for marriage and childbearing.

  43. on March 7, 2008 at 6:39 pm T.

DF, NY does have a lot of overrated 6s and 7s, but they’re easy to avoid as long as you don’t go to too many places where lawyers, doctors and investment bankers party. Places with a cover charge work well too, because for some reason it seems like a lot of homely professional women, despite their salaries, are cheap about cover charges but lack the hotness to get in free or skip the line.

And Roissy, you bastard, you actually inspired me to make a sincere blogging effort on a Friday.

  44. on March 7, 2008 at 6:49 pm Hope

Obesity definitely hurts a guy in the short-term market (bars, nightclubs, etc.), but not that much as a prospective dad.

True, a lot of married men have a gut. It’s pretty much a stereotype (Homer Simpson). Personally I’d take a tall man on the heavy side than a shorter but skinny one. The BMI charts don’t calibrate for tall men with a lot of bone and muscle mass either, so a lot of mostly healthy men are tagged obese.

Alcohol, suggar and fatty food is something whites are much better adapted for than other races.

The British have a lot of problems with rampant alcoholism including lots of kidney-related diseases. Large amounts of fatty and sugary foods also aren’t doing wonders for American whites. Rates of obesity-related disease incidence are higher here than in Asia. Overall bad diet and excessive alcohol contribute to poor health regardless of race,

  45. on March 7, 2008 at 6:50 pm Gannon

Just because a girl may be developing the Glorious Natural Pelt at age 16 doesn’t mean she’s psychologically ready for marriage and childbearing.

A woman is definitively psychologically ready for marriage at 16. In a modern society it may be inconvenient, which is another thing, but the mind and body develope in harmony.
You as a conservative should be specially suspicious of that
    psychological bullshit.

  46. on March 7, 2008 at 6:58 pm Hope

Do women care less if their man has a few extra pounds??

I don’t care, but I’m a sample size = 1, as many here like to say.

doesn’t mean she’s psychologically ready for marriage and childbearing.

Well-said and worth repeating. Back in the tribal days when girls gave birth young, there was a lot of familial support and relatives taking care of the children. Now with nuclear families of father + mother taking care of the baby, they lack the help of grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., and the parents have to be a lot more mature to raise a children. It’s another situation that contributes to lower birth rates, because now often both parents are working, and the grandparents are also working or are living too far to help.

This is a little off-topic, but something that I have noticed around an Air Force base on the East Coast is fit guys with overweight girls. The guy are almost always in the Military (Air Force, obviously). I made this observation to my mother and she said something interesting, “Stress Eating. Because of the guys spending so much time in Iraq.”

PA, you are in the military, right? Any thoughts?

Also, somebody mentioned that this is more of a problem with Middle America. I disagree. I find this to be more of a problem with Hip Urban spaces versus Suburban places.

So many cute girls want, and do, spend there time in the Upper West Side, Hoboken, Center City (Philly), Fells Point/Federal Hill (Baltimore), Georgetwon, etc.

They don’t want to spend there time in the boring Suburbs with a lower density of Guys.

This goes for the less attractive girls as well, but many of them (and the betas) self-select themselves out of the Hip Urban mating market and into the more staid Suburban life.

the mind and body develope in harmony.

Brain imaging of teens vs. people in their 20’s has already proven this to be false.

You need to look at the published research before making sweeping assertions like “the mind and body develop in harmony.”

  49. on March 7, 2008 at 7:02 pm Gannon

But Hope, we are agreeing, not disagreeing on the issue. It’s the modern circumstances that makes it unfeaseable for a 16 year old girl to marry, not the maturity of the girl itself. Also, mzarrying a 16 year old girl to an 18 year old is a disaster. But marrying the 16 year old girl to a 27 year old, established, parent approved man is viable.

  50. on March 7, 2008 at 7:09 pm Hope

we are agreeing, not disagreeing on the issue. It’s the modern circumstances

Depends on which issue you’re talking about. If the issue is whether or not modern society has flaws, then I would agree. And I would further agree that young girls are physically capable of having children, and can even properly rear kids when provided with the right kind of familial support.

However, the way the society is set up currently is not conducive to finding suitable mates and having children. That is the result of many processes which cannot be easily reversed. Family support structures have broken down entirely in many places, with single-parent households and absentee parents (kids being nannied by strangers, babysat by TV, etc.) being the norm.

If the issue is whether or not teenage girls are in themselves psychologically developed to have kids on their own, then no. Currently, most young girls in modern America are not ready to marry and procreate, precisely because of the circumstances I mentioned.

The BMI charts don’t calibrate for tall men with a lot of bone and muscle mass either, so a lot of mostly healthy men are tagged obese.

It’s common for men with high BMI’s to claim that much of the excess weight is actually muscle and therefore that they’re not really overweight. Most of these claims are inaccurate. Unless a man is a full-time athlete, or super hardcore into weight training, having a BMI in the obese range almost certainly means he could stand to lose some weight.

Things are a little fuzzier when it comes to the overweight (as opposed to obese) BMI range. Quite a few muscular men are at the ideal weights even though they’re overweight by BMI standards.

  52. on March 7, 2008 at 7:13 pm Peter

But marrying the 16 year old girl to a 27 year old, established, parent approved man is viable.

Right. Millions of parents would approve having their 16-year-old daughters marry men of 27.

  53. on March 7, 2008 at 7:13 pm Gannon

First of all, the study focuses on early teens, which I agree are still half children, and very different from 16 yearold women and up.
Second, the brain imaging proves nothing. I bet brainimaging between 25 and 45 year old persons also varies a lot.
Third, when I was 16 I clearly knew what I was doing.

But the issue is obesity here. I’ll admit that I’m among the guys who likes to make love to slightly chubby women (24-27BMI), but I also dsilike women with BMI’s over 30.

  54. on March 7, 2008 at 7:19 pm Gannon

“Right. Millions of parents would approve having their 16-year-old daughters marry men of 27″

Actually, I would rather marry my Daughetr off to a man who has already proven to be succesful and who will love her the rest of his life, than for her to waste her best years on stupid kids her own age which could get her pregant.

“The BMI charts don’t calibrate for tall men with a lot of bone and muscle mass either, so a lot of mostly healthy men are tagged obese.”

There is some truth to this. Because the BMI formula adjust weight by squaring (elevating by 2) it underestimates significantly the weight of low persons and overestimates significantly the weight of tall persons (above 180 centimeters).

You’ll love this; just about two days I ago I ran into one of the local heavies in Whoville where I live. By “heavy” I mean high profile political, financial, social mover and shaker. She proceeded to tell me (probably so I would not hear it from someone else) that her 16 year old daughter has moved in with her 21 year old boyfriend and she is perfectly O.K. with it. She said “He’s a bit OCD, but a great guy and treats her well and she’s very happy.” Basically she’s letting the girl do what she is determined to do and not standing in her way and in fact supporting her. That way she knows what’s going on and is maintaining a good relationship with her daughter. I thought that was pretty cool.

I would say this is a moot point if she has a lot of family support in the form of her own mother, grandmother, aunts, older sisters, etc. and of course the male equivalents especially if they are the nurturing types. Personally I probably would have had more children if I’d had family support. Admittedly young women are better baby creators than baby raisers, but I believe that is where the extended family can step in so she can go to school, work, further her career etc., plus it helps the father out assuming there is a participating father, of course.

Very on point. I do have to say though, that this problem is indicative of this country. There are so many fucking fat people here it’s ridiculous. Men and women. Notice how it’s always someone else’s fault too? “Waaaaaaa it’s genetic, I just can’t help it”. “I watch what I eat”. Bull-fuckin-shit. It’s because the food people eat is all processed fat infused boxed meals. Seriously, we Americans are so fuckin lazy that we buy pasta dishes that we dump from a bag into a pot and ka-bam! Dinner!
Everyone should try eating real food instead of all this processed bullshit. Put the burger down you fuckin orcas!! Back away from the donut fatty!

“Also, somebody mentioned that this is more of a problem with Middle America.”

If you’re talking about the Midwest, I believe Michigan is the fattest state in the country. There is a lot of putting on fat in the long winter that never really comes off in the spring and summer. I do believe that women (and probably men too) eat out of frustration, depression, suppressed anger, bad habits learned in childhood…

  63. on March 7, 2008 at 8:55 pm Hope

I would say this is a moot point if she has a lot of family support in the form of her own mother, grandmother, aunts, older sisters, etc. and of course the male equivalents especially if they are the nurturing types.

As I wrote before, these structures are breaking down rapidly, and in many cases are altogether missing. Often a 16 year old teenage girl’s mother is working full time alongside the father, and barely has time to even look after the teenager, let alone a granddaughter. Extended families nowadays live cities or states or even countries apart, especially since America has many immigrants.

Most teenage girls today do not have the ability to rear children with the support of extended families, and would like not be able to finish college and get a decent job without significant support from the family — and many middle class families are already strained in terms of financial and time resources. Many lower class teenage mothers fall back on some type of government assistance, something that is generally frowned upon in this country.

In an ideal world, yes, extended families would step in and help with open arms. But back in reality, familial support is not as good as you are theorizing. I was raised by my aunts (my mom’s brothers’ wives) who treated me with icy cold ambivalence, since I was not their biological offspring. The absence of a strong father figure in many teenage pregnancy cases also makes the kids prone to delinquency. Realistically, the merits of an incredibly young mother vs. a mother in her 20s are debatable.

Well, that is me. Looking to create a better world. It helps to know what the goal is. If you think that is ideal…if anyone thinks that is ideal….well, ideas create realities and though we don’t see it NOW, the more who can visualize it the more it will come to pass. I’m not blind to what is and have never been, but believe strongly that constantly focusing on what is wrong can never and will never solve the problems. In fact it adds to them… Do you agree that visionaries can change the world? I love the idea of of babies being welcomed with open arms no matter how they got here. It’s an emotional thing and emotions are powerful. More powerful than most people realize.

Gannon, the teenage boys in your ideal world sound kind of miserable. All the girls their age are gonna be taken by an older man, and the older women would be married, too. High school sweethearts would cease to exist. But this horse has been beaten to a juicy pulp already.

The rise of obesity can be attributed to many factors. Basically though, it’s law of physics: energy intake greater than energy expenditure. It goes hand-in-hand with the rise of suburban lifestyle, the habit of driving everywhere and the convenience of everything being automated or paying someone else to do it (dishwashing, laundry, lawncare, delivery food, etc.).

All of the modern “comforts” that we have contributed to this. Even our perfectly air-conditioned rooms cause us to not have to work so hard at maintaining our basal body temperatures. Shivering in a cold room or sweating in a hot room would cause calorie loss. In less technologically advanced societies walking 5 miles a day would not be uncommon, but nowadays people gawk at me when I say I walk over 2 miles a day to and from work, exclaiming “but that’s so far!”

The ideal changes all the time. Food shortages will definitely come again someday, and maybe someday not too far off in the future. There’s a cute article on nerve.com that jokes how a recession would do wonders for people’s love lives.

In an ideal world, women would marry men ten years older in their teens and dedicate themselfes only to childcare.

    Wow, how economically unproductive.

BTW, given that many thirty something dual-income couples are unable to afford having children in the US, how will a single income male do so? Gannon has been unable to answer this question, and nearly everybody has shied away from answering it.

As soon as she is in her late twenties all of her kids should be in school and in the morning she should attend state financed college, which would allow her to reenter the workinglife when she is in her early to midd thirties.

No real employer of any importance would employ these late bloomer women for any positions of real importance.

Gannon, the teenage boys in your ideal world sound kind of miserable. All the girls their age are gonna be taken by an older man, and the older women would be married, too. High school sweethearts would cease to exist. But this horse has been beaten to a juicy pulp already.

Actually, it would suck for men like myself who have mostly female friends. The disappearance of those women from the friendship market would solidify my loneliness and isolation. Besides, your age structure shafts women since while males are out having fun, they’re stuck doing useless stuff like raising children. In your world, while I would traveling, playing video games, blogging, and enjoying my life, Wellesley Queen would be miserable at home wasting away her intelligence taking care of children. It’s an immense waste of human capital and life.

To peripherally engage with the original topic, I like chubby white girls, and the boon in obesity rates has been great for finding beautiful white girls who are size 10-14 with D cups and large asses worth grabbing. You guys can keep your flat-chested boyish A cup stick figures. :)

If Gannon wants to knock up a 16 year old and love her for the rest of his life, there is no reason in hell that he can’t or shouldn’t do that and do it in style. If there is one example of that happening, why not more? It’s no more impossible than anything else someone wants to do. Think outside the box for once. :D

BTW, given that many thirty something dual-income couples are unable to afford having children in the US, how will a single income male do so?

It’s a vicious circle: the entry of women into the workplace has depressed real wages. If magically, most women left the workforce, single-income families woudl be viable.

No real employer of any importance would employ these late bloomer women for any positions of real importance.

So it could be an employer of little importance. What’s wrong with that?

Wellesley Queen would be miserable at home wasting away her intelligence taking care of children.

No. Productivity-wise, there is plenty enough human capital among men. Genius-wise, men do that too. The immense waste of human capital and life in our society is too many women working and not enough having children.

There is another simple solution to this issue. Simply allow most people to telecommute. Working from home simultaneously gives people greater happiness/freedom/time and solves these issues — child rearing being expensive and subpar because of parents working during the day, stress levels resulting in comfort eating/obesity, and a large chunk of the traffic/oil/carbon footprint problem. They wouldn’t need to grab quick Big Macs for lunches, but would be making home-cooked food.

We have the technology for telecommuting, and it would be incredibly easy in practice. Even when women weren’t working outside the home, they did things like sewing or housework. This simply moves outside work inside the home. I know both men and women with children who work from home, and they have lots of positive feelings about it.

  77. on March 8, 2008 at 2:16 am David Alexander

If magically, most women left the workforce, single-income families woudl be viable.

They wouldn’t magically become viable without massive price cuts for goods and services, massive increases in wages, or a declined standard of living. The first two are simply unlikely to happen, but the third is highly likely. People are not going to want to go back to single income families if it means going back to small, boring cars, non-Coach bags, small television sets, normal sized homes, and non-organic food.

So it could be an employer of little importance. What’s wrong with that?

Why should we waste the minds of intelligent people on silly, useless work? Employers of little importance are dumping grounds for the low IQ and underskilled.

Taking care of children is not a waste of intelligence.

It’s unpaid, demeaning work. If taking care of children was such glorious work, you’d see men fighting for the right to do it. Instead, we outsource it to poorly paid Central American women to do because we have better things to do with our lives. Raising children takes away from the human capital needed to make the economy grow and prosper.
In addition, staying at home is socially isolating and boring. My mom was a stay at home mom for near 20 years, and her lack of friends is one of the reasons for her current depression. While the women of her age went to work and had social lives, she took care of two children, both of whom have nothing to present to her as reward for her sacrifice. As far as I’m concerned, stay-at-home mothers are the province of bored rich white women or women too stupid to contribute anything to the economy.

No. Productivity-wise, there is plenty enough human capital among men. Genius-wise, men do that too. The immense waste of human capital and life in our society is too many women working and not enough having children.

In our advanced competitive world, there can never be enough human capital. Either we use our human capital to its extremes, or we face the possibility of being made irrelevant to the Borg collective otherwise known as China.

If we need a massive increase in children, then maybe we should look for the system used in the book, Brave New World. An artificial womb to produce children en masse, that would be raised in state-sponsored orphanages. That way, the rearing of children would be left to professionals, and the best possible children would be born culling the weak ones who would fail.

  79. on March 8, 2008 at 2:56 am Jack

First thing you can do to make it easier to raise children is end illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants force middle class whites (and even blacks) to move further away to be able to buy a house, causing prices to rise, and redoing the whole cycle. Cutting down on immigration would make it easier for middle class people to have families economically. It would ALSO create a situation where government would have to aid people in having children, because we wouldnt be importing people to pay for our retirement. We’d have to have our own children.

Intelligent women would be putting their smarts to use BEST by raising children. We need intelligent people reproducing or we become a society of idiots. The fact is, many jobs in this country don’t even need to be done, and are just there as filler so we don’t have lots of unemployment. A good amount of these jobs are probably filled by females. Their time would be put to much better use raising the next generation. After all, it is their natural role.

A dumber electorate is easier to sway and control, and is therefore conducive to stricter governance. Those who are interested in power prefer ignorant, docile populations to intelligent, self-directed people.

I agree with you that smarter people are not reproducing enough, on both sides of the gender divide. It’s a phenomenon that has not changed for many years (the linked study looks at the correlation between IQ and fertility from 1912-1982).

Yes, for you, it may sound reasonable, but for many of your fellow countrymen, their right to a coach bag and large plasma TV is one that is to be upheld by the Constitution. While there are some who work two jobs to stay in the middle class, there are plenty who work to buy McMansions, Japanese or European luxury cars, and high-end goods. I live with some of these people as my neighbours and their lives would be miserable without the items covering up their emotional bankruptcy.

Their time would be put to much better use raising the next generation. After all, it is their natural role.

I’m sorry, I prefer to live in a civilized nation where women have a use other than breeding machine.

It would ALSO create a situation where government would have to aid people in having children, because we wouldnt be importing people to pay for our retirement.

First you’d have to encourage young people to give up their perpetual adolescence to get married and have children at younger ages. Why get married when you can enjoy the single life and not have anybody bother you about your choices? Why deal with the drudgery of raising children when you can effectively do and buy what you want and not be responsible at all?

The Japanese have no immigration, and yet their birth rates have fallen into the abyss with no sign of return. The women have given up on the men, and are content to live at home with parents buying luxury items. This is in a country with what would be considered weak feminist influences when compared to the United States. I don’t see it working here unless you’re dealing with brainwashed Fundamentalist and Protestant cult members.

Having a kid is no big deal and the extended family helps raise it not out of duty but because more kids in the family is more fun. Everyone enjoys the kids and the fact that everything is new to them. It’s unpaid, demeaning work. If taking care of children was such glorious work, you’d see men fighting for the right to do it.

I guess it’s unpaid if the husband’s income that pays the bills doesn’t count. Holding your own child is perhaps the most glorious thing in life. Just ask a couple that can’t conceive.

Instead, we outsource it to poorly paid Central American women to do because we have better things to do with our lives.

Who is we? Nobody in my family or among my friends has ever outsourced childcare. Besides, the foreign nanny thing is a function of upper middle class women’s careerism, a thing you so promote.

In addition, staying at home is socially isolating and boring.

Yes, in the isolated 50s housewife suburbia sense. But traditionally, with extended family and kinship-based community networks, as Hope sketched, its a very social and close-knit way of life. It’s like being your own boss.

As far as I’m concerned, stay-at-home mothers are the province of bored rich white women or women too stupid to contribute anything to the economy.

I was tempted to dismiss that sentence as smart-allecky, but you do speak with such conviction. The rich white women thing goes back to the vicious circle of women in the workforce thing. Most women (and men) are not contributing anything to the economy other than being cogs in the machine on one end and consumers on the other.

In our advanced competitive world, there can never be enough human capital. Either we use our human capital to its extremes, or we face the possibility of being made irrelevant to the Borg collective otherwise known as China.

It’s good to be competitive, but it’s better to be sustainable. Plunging our society toward non-reproductive ends while fiolling the gap with another civilization’s newcomers burns our future. It’s like creating an illusion of wealth by going on credit card binges or illusion of strength by pumping steroids.

Again, what are we competing over: who gets taken over by barbarians first? Or whose ruling class gets more ureal rich? To hell with this competition.

There is no greater waste of human capital than non-reproduction. Unless you’re a Mozart or an Edison, you greatest contribution lies in family formation.

The Japanese have no immigration, and yet their birth rates have fallen into the abyss with no sign of return.

Japan is an intereasting culture. Whatever their structural problem, it’s either self-correct without the interference of immigration, or it will not. I’m not sure I understand Japan’s problem, but they’re so unique in key ways that I’m not sure their experience applies too much to the rest of the world. It’ll be a profound loss to humanity if they do go.

Can’t say that I’m a big fan of female obesity, but I have noticed that this helps sate a lot of men with low confidence, leaving them unwilling to compete for a better woman. They’d rather just hook-up with an overweight girl, whom they think is easier.

Also, while they do have their positives, I gotta mention the downside of tightly-knit extended families re:Gunslingergregi. Anecdotally when there are tight kinship ties to larger extended families, there tends to be a lot of other people in your business. Uncles and aunts always comparing their kids’ achievements to yours in an effort to gain familial status, gossiping members spreading crap about who you were seen with earlier in the week. People who are supposedly related to you, but you’ve never seen before, coming out of the woodwork asking for money once they’ve heard you got a decent job, telling you to “invest in family”, millions of pieces of unsolicited advice from “well-meaning” extended family members, etc.

Roissy, have you considered the other side? Maybe there are more nerdy men running around too. In which case competition decreases for men since women don’t want to date nerds. (Not you, Hope.)

I think what really happened with game is that too many men got brainwashed by feminism into being wimps and men are gradually rediscovering what women really appreciate.

    Jack,

Right on about illegal immigration. Must distinguish it from legal immigration. It’s not the IIT engineer immigrants who make the schools in the inner city suck and force parents to move to suburbs.

Though I think that DA is wrong. Why wouldn’t an employer want to hire a woman in her early 30’s who won’t claim maternity leave and can be devoted to her job since her kids are in college?

  93. on March 8, 2008 at 8:15 pm roissy

    fineFANTASTIC:
Where does that leave black women and asian guys, exactly?

    craigslist!

    DA:
BTW, given that many thirty something dual-income couples are unable to afford having children in the US, how will a single income male do so? Gannon has been unable to answer this question, and nearly everybody has shied away from answering it.

    define afford.

Damn, SFG in comment #91 makes a DAMN good point.

    #91 sfg:

    truth.

there would probably have been no need to teach ‘game’ to american males prior to the 1960’s, and, indeed, no point in doing so. Anyone who could’ve had ‘game’ basically had it, and there were too few willing females to make it worthwhile for lesser men anyway.

    #90 rtother:

while you have a point, it’s certainly possible to maintain family ties and independence/stubbornness/privacy simultaneously. ashkenazi jews and italians, inter alia, have pulled off this double for uncountably many generations.

  96. on March 8, 2008 at 10:22 pm CMiss

I think children are a lot more fun than adults generally speaking. So much energy and madness and they’ll believe anything you tell them. You can do a lot with them; you can mold them into your idea of a future human being if you’re clever enough.

    AWESOMENESS.

If you don’t want a kid, it’s probably because they’re too ambitious a project. There’s probably nothing like seeing a kid doing what you trained them to do. *sigh*

Anyway, obesity is a problem in the whole of the country. All of America is getting fatter and fatter as proven in the link I gave in comment 58 as (Accidentally) Anonymous (here it is again: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/trend/maps/index.htm). You can also see which states have the most horrible problems. This is a serious epidemic, you guys. I reckon you need to sire as many kids as possible to put into the gym from 6 months old to counter this, people.

    It is a MORAL RESPONSIBILITY.

My obesity theory is that you guys are so cruel to each other in OMGHIGHSCHOOLANDGYMCLASS that it has spawned a nation of comfort eaters, excercise avoiders, psychotic gun wielders and horrific teen movies.

Another cause of obesity: the American food culture. This article is pretty good at dissecting and refuting the confusing and often incorrect message sent by lobbyists, associations, and people specializing in nutrition:

In the wake of the panel’s recommendation that we cut down on saturated fat, a recommendation seconded by the 1982 National Academy report on cancer, Americans did indeed change their diets, endeavoring for a quarter-century to do what they had been told. Oddly, America got really fat on its new low-fat diet — indeed, many date the current obesity and diabetes epidemic to the late 1970s, when Americans began binging on carbohydrates, ostensibly as a way to avoid the evils of fat.

What we know is that people who eat the way we do in America today suffer much higher rates of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity than people eating more traditional diets. (Four of the 10 leading killers in America are linked to diet.) Further, we know that simply by moving to America, people from nations with low rates of these “diseases of affluence” will quickly acquire them.

Basically, the traditional food cultures in other nations are better than the American food culture. They eat food until they are mostly full as well, but the things they eat are simply better (until American food gets ahold of them in this global market). Many things are wrong with the American food culture, and most people do not realize it. They either starve themselves or go on doing things the way they always have been, and the result is either you torture yourself into being hungry all the time or you are overweight/obese.

I have a theory about five men in a bar, three are poor and two are not. And only the not-poor are worth any girl’s time.

Sounds a little different when you switch the gender’s, right? Either way, it’s sick.

PS - A woman’s worth is actually not determined by whether or not she gives you a boner. I know this because science has proved, beyond a doubt, that the world does not rise and fall (heh) with your penis.

  99. on March 9, 2008 at 2:25 am Usually Lurking

Basically, the traditional food cultures in other nations are better than the American food culture.

They are better than the new American Food Culture. There was nothing wrong with our old one. We got plenty of Saturated Fat and Cholesterol and Cancer and Heart Disease were rare.

An amazing book on this very sibject is Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes. He details with an amazing number fo references how much Bad Science was involved in changing our diets away from Sat. Fat and Cholesterol rich foods.

The article you quote details the results of those changes.

I have a theory about five men in a bar, three are poor and two are not. And only the not-poor are worth any girl’s time.

But, Dizzy, you know that it does not work that way. Hell, some guy tauting his occupation as a Lawyer and going on and on about his Mercedes is probably less likely to get that Bar Hottie than the guy in the Poor-Man-Rock-Star clothes and tight game.

This is actually a sort of compliment to women, because, experience shows that very few of them are “Gold Diggers”.

  101. on March 9, 2008 at 2:37 am InterestedParty

Almost 50% hot women? I’ve never seen any place with a ratio that high. :)

  102. on March 9, 2008 at 3:05 am Hope

Question: why do some people agree with people while writing as if they disagree?

  103. on March 9, 2008 at 3:45 am dizzy8

UL - Yes. Very few women are gold diggers, but, according to you and the other guys on this bar ALL men only want as good looking a girl as they can get. So what if few women are stupid enough to judge only on one trait? That’s not really an argument. (Which, again, makes me think you’re Roissy or just like him).

My point, again, is that women are not measured in boners. If you think they are, then you become someone who only wants a young woman who looks a certain way, and you are, by definition, precluded from a long-term relationship. That’s your right. What bothers me is that you are acting like your sick definition of women is all that matters. Women only count if they can give a guy an erection, and shut up after. But men, you’ve (or roissy) said many times that men are worth more and measured in different ways, and also are allowed to express themselves without it being considered a huge imposition on the women of the world.

Question: why do some people agree with people while writing as if they disagree?

    Wha, Me?

I guess we are agreeing. However, I felt the need to emphasize that any anti-Saturated Fat and anti-Cholesterol bunk is just that.

Nowadays, I find people who are looking to “get healthier” deal with a certian amount of schizophrenia. Low Fat? Low Carb? Raw Food? More Bacteria? Less Bacteria? What? What should I do?

  105. on March 9, 2008 at 4:14 am David Alexander

My wife has 3 hectares of rice fields and one hectare produces 10 tons of rice or so a year. She takes one ton of rice every 6 months and feeds an entrire generation of people. 1 hectare cost 4600 dollars. There is the fallacy of this can’t afford kids bs.

It sounds like your wife is from a developing nation, so I would suspect that you should refrain from using it as a comparison mark. Most Americans are not willing to live on the simple diet of rice, vegetables and light helpings of meat and fish.

BTW, they receive little support from their governments due to the fact that their governments are corrupt and routinely take advantage of the ignorance of their populations.

I guess it’s unpaid if the husband’s income that pays the bills doesn’t count.

I still regard it as unpaid because she earns no direct income from providing such services. Besides, it leaves her at the mercy of her husband for any spending money. Women who work don’t have to deal with that mess, and they’re free to spend their own earned money as they see fit. I am a big believer in separate incomes and separate bank accounts for couples with no joint accounts in any form. It makes separation much easier, and it permits me to spend my money as I see fit without her bitching that I waste “our” money.

Yes, in the isolated 50s housewife suburbia sense. But traditionally, with extended family and kinship-based community networks, as Hope sketched, its a very social and close-knit way of life. It’s like being your own boss.

Yes, but that presumes that you’re confident in your ability to care for your extended family or community. Given my family’s history of backstabbing each other in the so-called third world where such relationships are more important, I would certainly refrain from relying on them for any emotional or financial support. In regards to the community, I’d prefer to maintain my privacy, and I’d rather develop relationships with people that I have common interests in, not geographical similarities.

I’ve yet to see any upside in relying on these small social networks. My mother grew up with such networks in her small town, and nearly everybody prefers the atomized existence of the first world. Heavy reliance on extended family is what keeps broken third world nations stuck in their miserable state.

Most women (and men) are not contributing anything to the economy other than being cogs in the machine on one end and consumers on the other.

They work and consume which ads to our economy and boosts our GDP which keeps us employed and living at first world standards. The minute that people stop spending beyond basic means will lead to the decline in our economy and in turn, lower living standards.

It’s good to be competitive, but it’s better to be sustainable. Plunging our society toward non-reproductive ends while fiolling the gap with another civilization’s newcomers burns our future.

I may sound like a fatalist, but maybe we shouldn’t have newcomers? Maybe we should burn the future and leave nothing for a generation that won’t exist? Maybe we should enjoy the here and now and leave the future for the next species to rise after us? A childless world with steak for many or lean vegetables with cute, loving children? The kids are cute, but the sports car and steak are probably more loyal and loving in the long term than the kids are.

Besides, we don’t need children to take care of us in our old age thanks to long-term disability care insurance. It’s cost effective when compared to mating, marrying, and having children. There is no guarantee that children will take care of their parents, but with an insurance policy, I’m guaranteed that somebody will take care of me.

japan’s problem is an epidemic of chronic masturbation (in the males). DA would love it there.

Why date normal women when you can masturbate and get a better sensation and experience from a hypersexualized fantasy that looks better than the so-called hot women that Roissy claims to bang? The majority of female population around the world, regardless of race are not sexually attractive in any form. Only porn stars are sexually attractive.

It’s not the IIT engineer immigrants who make the schools in the inner city suck and force parents to move to suburbs.

They move to the suburbs because it’s easier and cheaper to buy newer and larger homes with better features than their urban counterparts. Even if urban public schools are safe, why would a middle class family buy a brownstone for $1M when they can get a house twice as large with lower maintainence costs in the suburbs for half the price?

Why wouldn’t an employer want to hire a woman in her early 30’s who won’t claim maternity leave and can be devoted to her job since her kids are in college?

Primarily because they can get fresh and creative and smarter young people to work for less money. Young singles are not distracted by the burdens and responsibilities of spouses and children. Instead, you’ll get some stressed out, over burdened mother whose intelligence was sapped away by two decades of raising useless resource sucking brats.

    define afford.

Afford in the sense that they cannot afford housing, food, transportation, savings, and all the other features of a “proper” middle class lifestyle with children.

“It’s a vicious circle: the entry of women into the workplace has depressed real wages. If magically, most women left the workforce, single-income families woudl be viable.”

Nope. That’s not even a little bit correct. The entry of women into the workforce has allowed productivity gains and supported our runaway consumer spending. And American workers are now competing with teenagers from incredibly poor countries where there are basically no environmental controls. Wages are so low there that this country can never, and probably doesn’t want to, compete.

Finally, if, magically, most women left the workforce, the world economy would collapse because we would no longer be able to buy at our current pace.
