Women do not usually hang themselves. They usually overdose, so this looks suspicious. Men shoot themselves, hang themselves. I don’t know the statistics on that, but think that it is rare for a women to hang herself. Very sad for her mother.

Very many men believe woman’s only source of power (as far as they personally are concerned) is her body and what they can offer sexually to them. Very many women also believe this. Very many women know that men believe this. Very many women therefore do not want to give up their only source of power to a man, because once they give it up it is gone. No one, man or woman, wants to give up their only source of power. How did we come to believe that a woman’s body is her only source of power?

If I remember right, women “attempt” suicide more often than men, but men actually off themselves far more often than women. Usual interpretation: Women are prone to making dramatic pleas for help and rescue when feeling depressed. Men, when feeling sufficiently depressed, are prone to ending it.
Another interesting suicide fact: Guys are much more prone than women to off themselves in ways that leave an ugly mangled corpose. Usual interpretation: even when offing themselves, women are vain and looks-conscious. Altnerative explanation: guys are slobs, even in death.
Oh, let me tweak the first graf in #11 just a bit. I forget who actually kills themself more often, gals or guys. The point is that guys — when they do “attempt suicide” — actually succeed at bumping themselves off at a much higher rate than women do. With gals, a “cuicide attempt” is often a dramatic plea for help. With guys, a suicide attempt is usually a successful attempt to kill themselves.
I suppose, MB, that those two facts are related: grislier methods, on the whole, tend to be more effective.
It’s a shame that the U.S. is one of the few countries in the entire world that wastes it’s resources prosecuting these sorts of activities. A strange union that of the Christianists and Feminists on this issue.

Although I wouldn’t discount the emotional gesture aspect of woman’s less frequently successful suicide attempts it could be simple incompetence or inexperience. Men are definitely the more violent sex and women might simply lack the intuitive understanding of what it would take to end the life of an adult sized human.

As far as I can tell, the only 100% effective suicide methods are a correctly-aimed gunshot to the head, and a jump from a high-enough elevation.
It seems to me that anyone who doesn’t have access to a gun but is serious about killing himself (as opposed to going for a ‘cry for help’
will simply jump from a height.
If I were to put myself in a suicides’ frame of mind, I’d find a jump to be painless, while with booze/pills I’d be terrified of horrid stomach pain, and with hanging… (ouch!)… scary and painful!
I also recall reading somehwere that all (not most, but all) people who survived a credible suicide attempt report feeling a powerful regret and a desire to reverse their action once they got past a point-of-no-return (swallowed, jumped, etc.)

Women threaten suicide more often but commit suicide much less often than men. If they attempt suicide, it’s often a weak attempt and more a cry for help. An indirect cry for help. Men don’t cry for help for the same reason they don’t ask for directions.

Well, it’s more like that’s all they are willing to pay with. Why is “Breast Cancer” research so super-important? More WOMEN die from ‘respiratory’ cancers. For that matter more WOMEN die from ‘digestive’ cancers than breast cancer.
The reason breast cancer beats out these cancers that kill more WOMEN, is because giving money for breast cancer research couldn’t possibly, theoritically, benefit men. Thus we avoid the difficult moral situation where a woman is giving money, however indirectly, to a man.
So an ordinary man, not the top 10%, looking at what a ordinary woman is actually willing to give him comes up with a buncho of “No”s and “Hell No”s. And he can cook, and doesn’t actually care if his “house is a mess”. So we are left with a relatively limited list of things that an ordinary woman is willing to give an ordinary man.
In fact, it’s limited to one item. Ordinary man had nothing to do with it either.
