I will choose ten submissions for a vote in a future post, when the readers will decide where each woman falls on the 1 – 10 looks scale. You can then compare your taste in women with those of your peers.

Update: Many readers complained that 10s would be impossible to find if the allowable choices exclude celebrities. I can see their point, so I’m now permitting celebrity submissions. But try not to abuse the rule change; the spirit of the contest is in how we rate regular girls we might bump into on a daily basis, not photoshopped celebrities that most of us will never see in real life. Feel free to enter your exes for the ultimate judgment.

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. I would consider her eligible as she is not a celebrity despite being well-known, as she’s not an actress/singer/model/whatever.

I’d give her a solid 7 at age 40 (when the photo was taken, she’s now 42). Note the beautiful hair, either a natural blonde or a superb dye job, clear skin with only minor wrinkling, and those piercing blue eyes.

Gillibrand’s swearing-in photo from last month shows that she’s gained some weight. It might be as a result of having a baby last May. The weight gain would knock her down one notch, to a 6, but chances are she’ll be able to lose it and get back to 7 territory.

Agnostic’s jailbait site also provides lots of 7s and 8s.

30-45% of the shots are not rateable. EXCLUDING shots with more than one person [maybe 20-25%], shots of girls that need more physical development [maybe 25-33% of all the photos], and shots with silly faces or poses, I’d say anywhere from 70%-90% of the remaining pictures are 7s, and probably 80-95% are 7s and 8s. Probably no real 9s and 10s, and nothing really below a 4 or 5. I think there is a lot of diversity within each number category. An 100 point scale might be better. At the same time, most of the time it is a tough call because women rarely have uniform good and bad features. Some women can have faces like 4s and bodies like 9s, or bodies like 5s but faces like 8s. These girls can get the same rating as a girl that is 7 all over, but at the same time the rating feels less justified then the uniform girl. In this sense the 100 point scale would cause even more mischief.

Without roissy’s pre-selected photos and forced choice rule, there would have been more disagreement in the ratings thread.

You guys are crazy if you think those are chicks 9s. I’m going to attempt a 9 in this post. Without a Bellucci, I don’t think there is any damn way we are going to get a reliably rated non-celebrity 10 here. We’ll be lucky to even get a reliably rated 9 not using celebrities.

As for 1s, can people please not just plug “ugly chicks” into Google Images? Find a unique 1 pick, not one on some ugly people website. And don’t make it some obese, deformed, or old chick. Find some 18-25 year old with honest to god rough part of the bell curve ugly. If we can’t find one, then we can’t find one.

She seems quite small, I’ll bet she’s not much over five feet. She’s notably smaller than the older Asian fish dealer, who is probably no Yao Ming clone. A rack that size that was 100% natural would still be disproportionate on a woman of such small stature.

Each of these types is composed of a specific, though variable, congerie of physical traits. do you know which are which?

As an Asian American, let me say that TJF’s offer of a 10 (the Asian girl) is a 4 or 5 for me.

I’m not some white guy with an Asian fetish. I think Asian women are beautiful and I think “Asian female fetish” is a paradox like “jumbo shrimp”.

If fetish is defined as something that is deviant or abnormal, then the true Asian fetish is an attraction to Asian men.

I don’t understand TJF’s inability to understand the nuances between subjectivity and objectivity. It’s true that people will have slightly different takes on what’s pretty but on a macro-level, perceptions of beauty tend to be similar. The Asian girl that TJF thinks is a 10, I guarantee if you show that picture to 100 Asian American guys, they will give her a bell-curve median around 5.

Because these metrics provide a heuristic shortcut for something’s value, which helps us make decisions in life. Just because someone throws 100mph doesn’t mean that person is a good pitcher but everything else being equal, velocity of pitches is the best proxy for pitching talent.

In the field of women, if someone is trying to set me up on a blind date, and he tells me that she is a 8 (and I can trust his “measuring” skills, then that is helpful to me). For people who don’t have good beauty calibrations (like women), I can’t trust them. That’s why you can never trust a woman’s evaluation of another woman.

If you don’t think Hyori Lee is anything special, that’s fine — that’s your preference. Just know that you are the exception and not the rule. If you like eating feces for breakfast, good for you, but don’t think that you speak for the average person.

I agree that Hyori Lee is nothing special. Not ugly, mind you, but not really worth making a fuss over either. Her chief attraction, like Chuck’s “eye candy”, seems to be the prominent display of relatively large breasts (an unusual thing in Korea, the land of pretty shovel faces and non-existent busts and asses).

Which raises the question: are we sure that we’re not mixing categories here, confusing ‘beauty’ with ‘desirability’?

I’ve sometimes admired a beauty but had no particular urge to sleep with her. I’ve sometimes found a girl “desirable” while recognizing that she was in no way beautiful and perhaps even ugly. The distinction isn’t just semantic, I think. What makes us find a girl ‘beautiful’ isn’t necessarily sexual in any immediate sense — though it might be so on another, deeper level — whereas what makes us find a girl ‘desirable’ is nothing more than the simple fact that we want to fuck her then and there.

Could there be an evolutionary angle here? If I had to choose — fortunately we don’t most of the time, since they are not mutually exclusive categories — I’d rather mate with a beautiful woman than a desirable one. But if it were a one off thing, I’d choose the ‘desirable’ woman without hesitation…

No one is arguing that the woman that they nominate as attractive is the “One Truth” — they’re saying that they think (1) this person is attractive and (2) there is consensus on this assessment.

If you wonder why there is a need for consensus, refer back to my previous post about our need for metrics to progress. For example, if there is consensus on what constitutes bad breath and you have halitosis but you refuse to follow this consensus, then it’s to your detriment. The danger, of course, as you realize is when we become sheep and only follow consensus.

I do actually somewhat agree with TJG that my 9’s face is “generic.” Some scientist whose name I forget once said “an attractive face is just an average face” meaning that an attractive face didn’t have any distracting features. In my OPINION, both are 6.5s.

My scale is that a 5 represents complete indifference. If I see a 5 on the street, I feel neither attraction nor repulsion. Good set of illustrative black girl pics. I agree with your rank order except for the top two. Those I’d call a dead heat although different types. Your 10 is young, maybe 17-20, and your 9 is mid to late twenties I’d estimate. I might even prefer you 9 to 10. But they’re both hot. But I’d give them both a strong 8. That’s not to say I think there are no black 10s.

BTW, it surprises me a bit that you posted no examples at least among the upper half, of African origin girls that are bodacious in tits and booty.

Also I’m not that officer. Most societies have wanted to marry off girls when they’re about 16, and sometimes down to about 12, though that’s usually “for safe keeping” [her virginity] for a year or two.

That usually has followed about that pattern among the rich. Among others it’s been constrained by when the male suitor has made enough bank to set the couple up in a class appropriate dwelling, and so on.

LOL. Let me say this: there are always exceptions in life, so there’s always a chance that people who wouldn’t normally get together wind up hooking up; we see this all the time.

Having said that, I like gals w/a future behind her, and usually that means gals whose dress size is beyond a 6 or 8. This is where I have to respectfully disagree with my White brothers, who seem to assert that there is only “one” standard of what’s hot; its not, and never has been. True, there are some broad basics, such as hip to waist ratio and facial symetry, youth and so on, but beyond that, things diverge quite a bit.

In facial terms, if that’s your pic in the posts, you look nice, and would fall under the definition of what I called a “more pure blood Sista”-in other words, you don’t looke marginally Black to me. Which seems to be a major requirement of White guys in order to get with a Black gal, that she not be “too” Black. All well and good, but me, I like the extra sassyness a Sista brings to the table. Makes bringing her under subjection all the more sweeter. That’s what Men do.

This is why, when I have dated White Women in the past, they had to approximate a Sista’s figure for me to be interested; my personal experience has been that certain Jewish & Italian gals fit the bill. The more Nordic types don’t really do much for me on the physical level, no disrespect.

By the way, I was talking about this the other day w/some friends; maybe you and others have heard what I consider to be a kind of Urban Legend, about the ah, “inner dimensions” of a female? The smaller the gal, the deeper pussy she has, and all that?

it is not that people dictate to me, but that so many people aggree with me! Men are remarkably similar when it comes to the relative position of girls in a ranking of beauty.

My point is that if someone rates an 8 like a 5, it is a problem with the person rating, not with the girl. If 50% of men think a girl is an 8, 75% of men think she is in the (7 9) range and 90% of men think she is in the (6 10) range, an7yone rating her as a 5 is ,statistically, a freak. Black male marital rates show that black males don’t tend to marry ANYONE so that isn’t a good barometer of black male preference.

There can be difference in what men find attractive. We all have different tastes (e.g., blonde hair, red hair, dark hair, blue eyes, green eyes, brown eyes). There can be cultural differences (e.g., ratings of booty, breast, or brains – yes brains, really… Ok I just wanted the triple alliteration).

However, there is plenty of science that shows beauty is not subjective. Things like facial symmetry and waist-hip ratios do have universal appeal.

I have had many discussions with other men about who is hot or not. While we often differed in taste (“She is hot” versus “She is nice but…”) we have never ever had a case of “she is hot” versus “she is ugly.”

If the question was not “do you find her attractive?” but “do you think many other men would find her attractive?” you would get much more agreement. Furthermore, if you divided the women into Beautiful, Not Beautiful, and Maybe, you would find large agreement. Predictably the Maybe group would have the most disagreement. All this proves is when the objective data (beauty in this case) is uncertain then opinions will be uncertain.

Beauty and attractiveness are strongly but not perfectly linked. This means that hot-or-not disagreements do not necessarily undermine the objective basis for beauty.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find that many of you guys are _extremely_ generous with your female ratings. Tens, in my experience of the world (as limited as it may be), are extremely rare in nature. We’re talking about a stellar physique (a hip to waist ratio of ~0.7) combined with perfect/near-perfect facial symmetry. I almost never, ever see this – and this is probably because having one or the other is not as rare (and can run the gamut from sevens to nines) as having both features. Indeed, a true ten in a career outside of modeling/acting/ballet/etc. is throwing away easy money. While the numbers you’re about to see are totally fabricated, I think it’s still somewhat instructive.

In nature:

10s – 3-5%
9s – 5-8%
8s – 8-10%
7s – 10-15%
6s – 15-18%
5s – 18-20%
4s – 10-15%
3s – 8-10%
2s – 5-8%
1s – 2-3%

I think the vast majority of women will be in the 4-7 range. I might be skewing hard in the 2-3 range, but let’s face it, there are a LOT of truly unattractive women out there (and men too, naturally). 8s are relatively common in daily life, but 9s and 10s are more rare. This is probably then why most men strike out with 9s and 10s. The simple rarity of their beauty strikes fear into a man’s heart – he knows _intuitively_ that if he messes up with this woman, he’s messed up one of his VERY RARE (as low as 8-12% of ALL women, and even that may be overstating the percentages!) chances with a truly beautiful woman.

No, read Mean Genes (or re-read it if you have). Evolutionarily speaking, we seek partners who display the traits that best project the possibility of healthy offspring. Asymmetrical faces are signs of ill health and disease, at least in the human mind. And indeed, almost all people display some form of asymmetry, which, it seems to me, registers subconsciously.

To cite an example from Mean Genes, when study participants were presented two pictures – one of a regular facial photograph, and one in which the negative was flipped to create better symmetry – the participants almost invariably selected the one with better symmetry, even if, to most eyes, the difference is almost hardly discernible.

Most of the low ratings here, such as the Black 1 by Sparks123, make only as much sense as rating a 90-year-old woman as a 10. It shows how ridiculous it is not to take age into account. Sure, among young women, somebody is going to be least attractive. That black girl might be a 1 among her particular classmates, but she is still easily among the 10% most desirable women and forgetting that is very myopic. Just like somebody is going to win the beauty contest at the nursing home, but that does not mean she is beautiful. I think we should consider all women as one group when we rate them, because that is how we act in real life.

I have never seen a healthy reproductive-age female I don’t want to have sex with. There is no way any of them can be a 1, unless you ignore all older (and younger) women and insist on a Bell curve. But what would be the point of that? I think a rating is most useful if it reflects how much men want the girl, and normalizing the ratings within age-groups, such as Hot or Not seems to do, distorts reality by overrating lots of old women and underrating young women.

Hot or Not, by the way, tells me I’m a 6.7 or hotter than 63% of men on that site, but looking at the raw data, it is clear that I am much lower on average and my most frequent vote is in fact a 1. The percentile is probably correct, but my 6.7 rating obfuscates the fact that most women are totally unattracted to most men, and likewise standardizing ratings of women obfuscates the fact that men willl sleep with anything that moves, and if she is of reproductive age we will fight for her.

Thursday–I have seen it! I love the film and her in it. She was so vivacious and adorable. I think she can pull off both beautiful, sexy, and mysterious (what she is known for) but also easily sweet and adorable.

Also–thank you.

When I look at female beauty I do tend to focus on the facial features, coloring (I like dark AND light), nice skin and hair regardless of color, and the bone structure of the face.

I can also appreciate a great body which is why I added those 10 bodies and 9 faces…there are quite a few VS models that are 10 bodies and 8-9 faces too.

The girls I find gorgeous are those really classic (even when exotic) beautiful girls that even if some of them don’t do it for you…you can see why I would make them 9-9.5s or the rare, rare 10s.

So, I appreciate you saying that. A lot.

Thursday–

PS: I agree with you on Nicole Kidman as a 9. Now she looks very tucked and Botoxed which I find icky…but up until about 35 she was out of this world spectacular.

At her peak–25-36…she was untouchable. I especially love her in To Die For, Practical Magic, and Moulin Rouge.

Yes, some well picked classic beauties Kassy.

Except for myself Elizabeth Taylor. Not only do I not think she’s better than a high average after her teenage years, during those times generally only in a movie role when she does manage to avoid looking truly corpulent (though it always threatens and is always in her face), I can’t even understand how so many consider her beautiful It almost seems like mass delusion to me.

The pic of her you’ve got up, that really young teenage one, is her at her peak. Probably National Velvet time right? She went steeply downhill from there on, and spent most of her acting career as a just barely under control (when slimmed down for screen) alkie and looking like one bursting at the seams to become obese.

I can only guess it was her really big chest in an era before fake ones, some of them now done really well and moderately and filling out Hollywood starlets and even stars, that accounts for this beauty delusion. That and when she was really young, again around National Velvet time, she threw out this smouldering sexuality look that suggested nymphomania, at a time when it was rare or at least very much underground. Yeah, that was hot.

Then she turned into a hard as nails looking makeup ripping shrew right quick.

No, No, NO!! No Elizabeth Taylor for me.

If you look at my girl crushes and my above list–I actually favor more brunettes and chose brunette actresses overwhelmingly in my choices. I have what–3 blondes total…but I do love blondes as well. For me…its beauty–regardless of hair color.

The only think I don’t like is when really dark women go blonde. Its really not attractive.

I may be naturally blonde and blue eyed but I’ve been dyeing my hair brown for almost 3 years now…and being that red for 4 years.

Sophia Loren may have aged more beautifully than any other woman in the history of mankind. She’s a true phenomenon. (I really wanted to end that with an “a” but I guess that won’t be correct.)

She looked like she was in her 20s for at least twenty years, beginning when she was about 15 I think. Well, I’m using some imagination there. Certainly since 17.

Then she looked like she was in her thirties forever. Then like in her early or at most mid 40’s well into her 60’s.

The young Bardot defined sex kitten, body, face and manner. Of course film makers like Rodger Vadim took what was natural in Bardot and got her to play even more to it.

I’m not even sure the term was in common use before her. It sure was after her. People were forever looking for the “next sex kitten” after Bardot started to age a bit.

Didn’t work as well as she aged even a little. Her career as a leading lady was actually very short. That’s not because she aged so badly, but because she was basically seen as a late teen hottie, blonde French style. Also, she couldn’t really act, though she did have natural dignity and a certain charisma.

doug1- I like Loren’s face but I wouldn’t call her beautiful but she was certainly close for a very long time. For me, it’s the shape of Loren’s body that truly pushes her past most other women. Raquel Welch has a similar body and had somewhat similar facial features as Loren.

Diahann Carrol is another old school beauty but she didn’t peak until she was about 40. During her dynasty years.

Bridgette was very, very sexy and adorable but I never found her beautiful really.

Another “sex kitten” type who was both sexy and really pretty was Ann Margret. In Viva Las Vegas? Raor. Okay in ANYTHING she was super sexy and lovely in that sex kitten way.

And Sophia…she has aged unbelievably well. I never found her beautiful but always very very pretty and super sexy…and that body, skin, and those eyes? Wow.

I saw her only once, in an old fashion-spread in what I think was the first edition of the American version of Marie-Claire magazine, and I never forgot her. I kept the mag for years just to look at her pictures. (Yes, boys – straight women really do this. We can admire each other, even if there’s often a trace of envy involved.)

Another exotic-looking model I remember from the late 1980s/early 1990s is Nadege – don’t know the last name but from the name I guess she was either Algerian or Tunisian. Used to do many fashion-spreads in Alaia clothes. I think she was a “super” model but too unusual to hit the hetero-male consciousness.

Ann-Margret was always charming and vivacious on screen, but I loved her best in the cameo role she did in an outrageously treacly but funny movie called “Pocketful of Miracles”, also starring Glenn Ford and Hope Lange. She sings an a capella version of “I Gave My Love…” in which she alters the words to “I gave my love the light of love wrapped up in pink and blue/I gave my love a baby that looks like you.” Gives me shivers just to think of it. This is funny as opposed to offensive in the way that most of these pics are of girls on porn sites (who are about the highest quality women you would get) as well as girls who are just not attractive in ANY way if you like class or uncontrived beauty. The gentlemen seem afraid to award any woman who is classy, elegant, or sophisticated any “attractiveness” points.

Furthermore, there is no such thing as a “9″ at a bar/club. Only skanks go to bars/clubs past the age of about 22 when you realize that only desperate men and college boys are at 90% of them. If you genuinely went to a club and saw “9s and 10s” you have EXTREMELY low standards (which is obvious here).

Also, since clearly most of you have never met a woman let alone known one with fake boobs, they sag and look like shit a lot faster than natural ones do… (unless you are talking about a natural DD or something like that). I have never heard a single guy (who has actually DATED) say they prefer big fake boobs to medium natural ones that look “good”.

Once again, have you ever stepped outside your homes? Met a girl? Seen something other than a porn-star or an actress who you will never meet and who would never sleep with you anyway? It is not true that a woman can be everyone’s 10. Men have personal preferences based on their own race, height and build. I am a tall lanky dude and I look for a tall beautiful woman. I think 5′3″ girls with great boobs are cute, but can hardly imagine a relationship with them. I could rate some of them a 10 but “not for me” nevertheless. On the other hand, whenever I spot a girl with great face, hair, boobs, thin waist and tall shapely legs, I am immediately attracted.

I hope you aren’t listening, even a little, to that rating presumably from Willard.

That one pic of yours I saw you were definitely at least a solid 6, with I’d say at least 7 potential. You seemed to have little or no makeup on, the angle was bad (low to high) and the lighting looked harsh. As someone here illustrated Jennifer Garner can look bad w/no makeup, harsh lighting, when stressed, etc.

As well at 17 you probably will do some beautifying. Most girls do I think. Some peak then but most don’t until maybe 22 (and then plateau throrugh their 20s more or less) and in some cases even a little older. (I.e. you might conceivably become an 8. I think higher is quite unlikely though.) Trying to tell truth.

Some men on here, esp. betas, like to downgrade girls far more than is justified, thinking it’s some sort of effective neg.

You’re attractive enough, with your smarts and a personality which is very dominant male friendly, to attract a stable serious minded alpha life partner, I think. You probably won’t attract scads of players, natural or made. You probably won’t consider that a great loss.

I’m not a huge fan of makeup. My friends have to strap me down to a chair to put it on me.

The picture I showed (the 6) was taken when I was 15. The most recent was the one where I was wearing the green dress, taken two months ago.

I think I’ll probably start looking my age in my early 20’s. Right now, I can pass for a middle schooler.

Even though I’m happy with my looks right now, I’m doing a lot of things to change them. I’ve been exercising and working out, I’ve been drinking more water because I heard it’ll make the skin look healthier, etc.

My hair’s about two or three inches from midback, so I’m excited about having longish hair now.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ve really been trying to improve my looks because I’ve always been a bit…difficult in terms of taking care of myself. I mean, I shower and always smell really good, hygiene NEVER was an issue (for some people it is, ewww), but in terms of taking care of my hair, brushing it so it doesn’t get damaged…yeah. I’m really working on myself.

Collegeboy–Nah, that’s not me. Classy will get someone possible girl crush status but even then, I like the kind of naughtier, more fun girls.

In terms of rating, I go on straight beauty. But if we were rating sexiness…your girls would probably be bumped up to 8.5 for me definitely especially the girl with the pretty green eyes…but for beauty? Still 8s. Its a feature by feature, coloring etc kind of a thing.
